No Television In Our Home
I didn't want to consume Mrs. R comment box with my long reply, so I figured it would be easier to do it here. I just wanted to share how the TV, or lack thereof has affected our house. We(my beloved and I) had in the past tried cutting out the TV, but I think we did it in "self," rather than giving it to the Lord and asking Him to help us. Even though the TV was off, in our hearts, we wanted it on. Does that make sense? It wasn't until my beloved mentioned something about how when we are watching TV, we are pretty much consenting to their actions. Even though they aren't real, they are actors, but if we are watching someone commit adultery or whatever sin, we are consenting to it. We are taking part in it. Once we thought of it like that, it helped out tremendously. I remember we also went through a period of thinking okay, we will only watch nature type shows like from Animal Planet, etc., but even with that, you can overdue it. There were better things that we could have been doing. I believe we will be held accountable with what we did with our time. (That goes for the computer as well) My children go to sleep relatively early, around 7:30 (now a little later in the summer. lol My beloved said he doesn't know how, but it has to be some form of abuse somewhere. They fall asleep within 5 min. so I know they need to be in bed at that time) and since they are bed, my beloved and I have a decent amound of alone time in the evenings. It is so nice not to have the TV involved in "our" time. We just decided it was best if we stopped watching it all together. The house really does seem quiet now. I went to someone's house not to long ago that had the TV on. It wasn't showing anything bad, but it just seemed like noise. And the images just seemed so fast paced. I guess my eyes and ears had grown accustomed to no TV. Sorry it this was all scattered, I'm trying to do a few things at once. ;0)

I've tried to give up tv so many times. Just recently we let the cable go, and we're fighting the temptation to get it back. We thought we'd just stick with network tv til we weaned ourselves off that, but the channels don't come in good, so we're going through withdrawal. It would be better if the channels didn't come in at all, then we could go cold turkey. My husband and I have so little time together, we really need to get rid of the tv. It doesn't benefit us at all.

This was good Shereen, thanks for sharing. I've also done a TV post today!
I know what you mean about the noise. While visiting in someone's home they leave the tv on all the time 'for background noise' they said. It was irritating to me because I wasn't used to it.
One thing I remember about our time w/o tv is how when we'd go to a family member's house who had tv we would immediately get sucked back into the tv vortex....it was fascinating because like you said, the images moved so quickly.
Thanks for sharing your story. I know what you mean about spending too much time on even good programs. Very interesting post.
