I washed all of the dishes you see above with less than 3 gallons of water, and I obviously saved the 77 minutes of electricity. They aren't stacked properly, as I wanted you to see how many dishes were washed. I can't wait to see how much my electricity bill comes for. I got my last bill on Friday, but it doesn't really count, as it was an estimate. They come to read the meter every other month. I have been addicted to reading my meter daily, but that's a whole other post. lol
Does anyone wash by hand as opposed to using the dishwasher, and see a difference in their electricity bill?
p.s. I will share our little store address this week. I'm almost done with the pictures and descriptions. Please, please be patient with me. I know I have some comments to respond to and recipes to share. I will definitely do those this week. My beloved might be going to Texas this week to help his younger brother with some decision making on the purchase of a house. My evenings will be empty without him. ;0( I will try to catch up on everything during that time.

I use the light wash instead of the regular load and that is with the dishwasher full.It cleans them perfect. Also when it comes to drying I turn it off and open the door for them to dry so I don't have to use the electric and pay for that.I am going to look in my book and see how much water it is for the light wash.Curious now!On the light wash it runs for almost a half hour instead of an hour or more.
Hi Shereen. I don't wash my dishes by hand, although I probably should :) I run a full dishwasher. When the wash cycles are finished, I turn it off, open the door and have the dishes air dry. I don't like using the heated dryer part. I know you will miss your beloved when he goes to Texas. I wish them quick success in finding a home. Since I live in Texas, maybe somewhere down the road we maybe able to meet! I would love that so much!!
Have a Blessed Day!
Love and Blessings
Honestly, I don't see any savings for washing dishes by hand. Our power bill is more than I like. We use CFLs, line dry clothes and wash dishes by hand--still think power is high. I could be being unrealistic, though.
I don't have a dish washer, unless you count my husband. He doesn't much care for it, so it's usually just me. I can't actually compare electric bills, but if and when I ever get a dish washer, I will let you know.
Shereen,
Hi there, I have been enjoying reading your blog. I have been very interested in the posts on frugality. Our son has a feeding tube and had to go on all formula (very loooonnng story). Anyways the formula he is on is expensive!! It alone takes up half of our weekly grocery bill, leaving me half to feed the six of us. So it is urgent that I find ways to save lots of money :-) I hope you don't think this is a silly question, but exactly how did you wash your dishes? Did you fill up a sink of soap water and wash them all from that and then rinse them all off at the same time? I'm just curious as I've been using a dishwasher for a long time.
Thank you!
It says the dishwasher will save you money because most people don't wash dishes properly - instead of filling up the sink with soapy water, the other sink with rinse water, they wash all of the dished under running water.
I've always heard the dishwasher thing too but our new house has a wonky one that may or may not work, and may or may not get the dishes clean. I use it to wash the children's plastic stuff because it's hard to get the grease off though.
Hi Shereen; I have been washing dishes by hand for over 5 years now. I don't own a dishwasher and truly I don't want one:) I also do not let the water go down the drain, we pay for sewer service in our little town, so my garden has been receiving all of this water and doing gloriously. Thank you for sharing. Maria S.
I also don't use the button that says it will dry my dishes. My dishwasher doesn't have the option to do a light load. I wish it did. It only has normal, pots and pans, china, and rinse. It really was curiosity in the beginning for me too.
Thanks Melanie, I really do miss him.
Becca, I wonder what is still eating up so much of your power then? What do you think it is?
J the Milker, I really don't think you need one. I seem to wash them a lot faster than a dishwasher. lol
His child, yes, with six of us in the family, I have to make sure I wash the dishes as quickly as we use them. If I don't wash them quickly, they pile up. ICK!!
Kerri, I am writing up a post on that now. ;0)
Milehimama, I assumed that's what it is as well, people just let the water run while they wash and while they rinse as well.
River House, I am writing up a post on that today. My friend, you have opened up a can of worms with me now. lol ;0) My beloved is going to think I have really lost it now.
